How long can you stay in Japan if you quit your job (on a working visa)?

I thinking about quitting my job and taking some time off (extended leave is another option, but I’m not sure the company will support that). I’m a bit confused on how long I’ll be able to legally stay in Japan after quitting the company that sponsored my Visa. I’ve heard various things like 30days, 90days, and until your current Residency Permit (zairyu) expires. I’m lucky to be on a 5 year work visa (I(b)), so I’m wondering if I quit if I can just hang around until the end of that 5 year period without needing to find a new job?
