Hi folks, I did some digging but all of the sites I’m hitting only talk about a couple that have the same last name, or a couple where one of them are a Japanese national.
My wife and I are both Australians, but we got married here in Japan last year. She did not take my last name, but now we are pregnant and are due in September.
The plan is for the child to have my last name, but how does this work for the birth registration here? Do we get to choose which name it is registered under?
If it makes any difference I am the head of the household for our home. Sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn’t find the info I needed.
