Hi everyone. I have been living in Japan for about 5 years now. When I arrived I was given a JP post bank account which was fine at the time, but ever since they enacted the anti-terrorist/money laundering checks on bank accounts, the bank has been an absolute pain in the ass. The fact that I need to re-submit my personal details after every visa renewal (every year in my case) is already inconvenient enough, but just last week they closed my account AGAIN when I already went through this process 5 months ago.
I understand this is a country wide policy, but are there banks that make this process less arduous or perhaps do the checks less frequently that anyone can recommend to a foreigner? I’m also thinking about getting myself a credit card. Thanks.
