Aso, Kuju and Beppu for a week

Hi!

I am planning my two weeks iterinary in Kyushu starting next week. For the first 5 days I’m flying to Kagoshima and heading towards Yakushima for 3 nights. After that, I do not have anything booked and I’m trying to setup my plan. My idea was to get directly to Kumamoto from Yakushima, and then:
– Aso for 2/3 nights,
– Kuju for 2/3 nights,
– Beppu/Yuifun 2/3 nights.

I want to dedicate the whole week for this part of Kyushu, but I’m completely flexible in terms of how many days where.

Could you help me a little bit with planning and provide some recommendations about how to structure this part of the trip?

My preferences:
I aim for Kuju and Aso as I’d love to mostly hike. It is definitely not about professional hiking, I do not have any specific bouldering gear nor chains, but I would call myself prepared for regular hiking. Apart from walking, I prefer nature and unique cultural experiences rather than cities.

My questions:
– I saw Nakadake is closed within 1 km from the crate – is it still worth to go to Aso then? If so, what trails should I aim?
– I was thinking of renting a car in Kumamoto for this week, but it is rather pricey so thought I’d rather stick to public transport. But if it is a bad decision, let me know.
– Where should I look for accommodation in Aso to access the trails with public transport if needed?
– Is there any convenient connection between Aso and Kuju that I could take?
– Where to stay in Kuju and what trails to aim for? Any other interesting places I should visit?
– Further, is there a way to get from Kuju to Beppu?

I really appreciate any kind of advice. 🫶🏽
Hope you don’t mind me asking for some many things, it’s just my head is already full of reading guides and reddits that now I feel like I need simple, direct advices that I do not need to consider on every angle.
