Etiquette for boarding flights in Japan

Hi all, I know this seems silly, but while I have flown to Japan before, I have never flown a Japanese airline. And I have several flights with ANA and JAL this year. In the US/US airlines, boarding is always a complete mess, with tons of people crowding the gate and a lot of other nonsense.

One thing I noticed is that Japanese airlines seem to recommend a much shorter boarding window, usually only like 30m for international flights compared to the hour plus of US international flights. At what point should I be heading the gate and starting to line up for my boarding group and that sort of stuff? Does 30m mean starting to board, or boarding is completed by then?

Do the staff create lines for the different boarding groups or something? What happens if I show up after boarding has already started for a while, do I join the group I’m supposed to be in, for example business or first class?

I know these seem really low-level, but I just want to make sure I don’t disrupt anything.
