Hi, I’m soon starting a WHV in Japan but I have a few unavoidable trips abroad in the first month which will eat up my visa time. Can I enter initially as a temporary visitor (my passport allows it), and then re-enter with the WHV after my trips?
If anyone has successfully done this, please share the procedure! I’ll be arriving into Narita initially.
Thank you!

Technically: Yes, you’re legally allowed to do this.
Realistically: How is your Japanese? You will need to explain to the immigration officer looking at your passport that you don’t want to use the WHV yet. That’s not a conversation that is going to be practical to have in English.
