I read somewhere today that if you’re married to a Japanese citizen, you can apply and get permanent residency after just a year. Is that true???
I’ve been here and married to my Japanese wife for 2 years now and my current spousal visa is at 3 years length, ending in 2 more years until I have to renew it.
I also heard there’s a point system? Does that apply in my case? Would passing the JLPT N1 up my chances if I were to apply after the next testing round in December? TIA

Yes, spouses of Japanese nationals and Permanent Residents who having been married for more than 3 years, and lived more than one year consecutively in Japan, can apply for permanent residence.
As you have only been married for 2 years, you do not currently qualify to apply.
If you score 80 points (or more) on the HSP table, you should be able to apply via that route after a year. N1 will grant you 15 points there. You would still need another 65 points.
Yes.
There are different ways to get PR, depending on the individual situation.
Being married for at least 3 years where one of those years are in Japan, is one way.
Having 80 points in the HSP system för at least 1 year, or 70 points for 3 years is another way.
There are more, which can be found on the immigration website.
