  1. Looks good! Typically you want to use less rice and more filling but maybe that’s not what you were going for here. 10/10 would eat 🙂

  3. Wet your fingers when spreading through rice. Will help you spread it thinner as the rice is less likely to stick to you.

  4. Try some different fillings! If you aren’t ready for raw fish, mix together krab stick with Japanese mayo, siracha, or both before adding to your rolls. Making cooked shrimp for sushi is pretty easy to get down and there are plenty of videos online that take you through the steps. Like everyone says, a thinner layer of rice will bring a good balance to your maki! Some extra tips: before you start putting rice onto the nori, fill a bowl with water and a little more rice vinegar to dip your fingers in- this will help keep rice from sticking to you (plus a lil extra flavouring for the rice). Remember to not squish the rice down onto the seaweed sheets, but instead use just the edges of your fingers to spread it around keeping the grains nice and fluffy. When cutting your roll, use a knife that has been dipped in a lil water to help crack through that nori layer. As with all cooking, a good, sharp knife goes a long way.   5. The first and most common recommendation for beginners making sushi, use less rice hahaha. Ideally the roll should have a thin layer of rice (if you are making the roll with one ingredient, where you cut the nori sheet in half)

  6. Using a roller makes a huge difference! If you used one, then I’d go slower and roll more tightly
