Hello, どうも has always bothered me as I learned Japanese and I never really understood what kind of situations that it was appropriate to use the phrase. I recently bumped into [this article](http://ypir.lib.yamaguchi-u.ac.jp/bg/metadata/1055) which has really changed how I understood the word. Since I found the paper useful, I decided to translate the paper in case anyone else wanted to read it, but might not be proficient in Japanese. Here is the [translated article.](https://drive.google.com/file/d/17h1jMytgkEM24l31GWQXmaCmhwexxlM3/view?usp=sharing)
If you just want a summary of its uses, the conclusion section of the paper gives that, but it will make little sense without reading through the examples and the analysis. I want to also say that I am human, and it is possible there may be mistakes in translation despite the fact that I have proofread it.
For anyone interested, I’ve written a little small overview of the article in my [blog post](https://contextiskey.hatenablog.com/entry/2022/03/29/100316) and added links to a google doc where anyone can make suggestions (to correct mistakes and typos).
