How common is not having to sign a work contract as 正社員

I’ve always worked as 派遣社員 and always signed a contract explictly stating important things. However, recently I’ve moved to a (apparent) 正社員 position (different company) and I have a few questions regarding this since it’s my first time in this situation.

When I asked if there was a contract after a few days I have started working, the guy in charge of documentation just handed me a company admission file which had some info like name, country, My Number, monthly salary, job position and similar stuff. It also had my trial period stated at a 用期間の定め field. He also handed me a spreadsheet that had two values that would compose my salary, age and work experience. I later asked him and he said it’s a 正社員 position but I don’t see any of it stated in the papers he got me.

This isn’t a big company, around 40 employers, mostly middle aged japanese men working manual labor and a handful of other foreigners. By the way it’s factory work. The place doesn’t seem sketchy but I’m kinda worried about no contract.
