What to do in Matsumoto during early April?

Hi Everyone! As our travel dates are getting closer, I want to at least finalize the places to visit in Matsumoto.

I’m worried cause I feel like our dates is a too early for spring activities and too late for winter activities.

For reference, I’m traveling with my mom who is in her early 60s and we are only relying on public transportation to go around. Our dates in Matsumoto falls on April 1-4 but the last day is lost due to our travel time to the airport. It’s my mom’s first time to Japan so I really want her to have a good time. Before going to Matsumoto, we are visiting Tokyo and we are already decided on our itinerary there. Our primary focus on Matsumoto is the beautiful scenery of Japanese alps and the famous Takato Castle Ruins for their cherry blossoms.

Initially, we planned to visit Hakuba due to the beautiful alps but I just found out that most resorts are closed their on our dates and would reopen by mid April so I’m lost on what to do. We wanted to ride the gondola and just relax at obervatory decks while looking at the scenic views at the resort and then go to Oide park.

Would it still be worth it to visit Hakuba on a day trip knowing these information? I’m open to any suggestions as long as we get to see the alps or scenic views. 🥺

This was our tentative itinerary:

April 1
– Narai Juku
– Matsumoto Castle

April 2
– Takato Castle for Sakura (a bit early but it’s okay)
– not sure where to go after honestly 🙁

April 3 (but gondola & observatory are closed)
– Hakuba day trip
– ride gondola at Iwatake Mountain Resort
– see observation deck
– Oide park

Please help 🥹
