Laid-back solo travel to Japan

Hey all,

I’m going to solo travel for the first time in Korea/Japan for three weeks in April and I am currently making a laid-back itinerary with more walking and unplanned activities. I actually saw the two posts that mentioned it’s not mandatory to plan everything as a lot of people seem to be doing and I’m super happy to read that.

However I’m still wondering about two things and I wanted to have your opinion.

Would you have any recommendations for hostels where the vibe was good? I’m not totally counting on meeting other solo travelers but it’d be nice to share some day trips here and there, it will be my first time in Japan. Also, besides these day trips, where did you meet most solo travelers/interact with locals (I know that can be a hard thing to do)?

Finally I’m wondering, I’m visiting both Korea and Japan, arriving in Seoul on April 1st and leaving from there April 23rd. Would it be better in this case to go directly to Japan on April 2nd/April 3rd right after I arrive to Seoul or should I first start with visiting Korea? I saw the sakuras should be blooming around that time in beginning of April so I was thinking of going directly.

Thanks a ton for your help!
