Itinerary Check for 3 Week Trip in July

Hey guys! My wife and I will be traveling to Japan for a 3 week trip in July (yes, I know it’s going to be hot during that time but it was the only time our vacations lined up), and the last time we were in Japan was back in 2018, so I’m sure a lot has changed since then. Last time we were there, we visited the usual “touristy” spots, so this time we want to try to explore outside of that comfort zone. We are gonna structure this trip mainly based on food and perhaps a few attractions. My wife has been really into home decor, so we want to check out stores that sell such items. We have a rough sketch of our itinerary, so any suggestions are welcome!

July 4: Land at Narita at 2pm. Get to Muji Hotel. Try our best to explore Ginza depending on how tired we are from our flight.

July 5 – 9: Traveling to Osaka and checking into Sheraton before exploring the area on our first day. Somewhere along here we plan to do a day trip to Kobe (our first time there), so any suggestions for food would be great, we definitely want to try Kobe beef. We also plan to do a day trip to Kyoto (we already have this famous tofu restaurant in mind that we went to back in 2018 and will probably go back again this time). Not sure how we should structure this trip if we plan on going to Kobe and Kyoto, our primary focus is to explore more of Osaka outside of the usual places.

July 9 – 10: Traveling back to Tokyo, probably just go revisit certain attractions before we make a quick detour to Korea for our anniversary.

July 13- 16: Coming back from Korea and then staying in Tokyo again. This is probably the part where we are going to do most of our shopping, so any suggestions on places to get home decor stuff would be fantastic. My wife has bookmarked a lot of thrift stores and furniture stores but are open to any ones we HAVE to check out.

July 16 – 19: Traveling to Sapporo for our very first time, we already have plans to visit Sapporo Beer Museum and maybe do a whiskey tour. Aside from Sapporo, we will probably do a day trip to Otaru. We also want to hike a bit since it won’t be as hot up there so any suggestions for that would be great!

July 19 – 22: Traveling back to Tokyo. This last leg of the trip we plan to go see Mt. Fuji (never been near the area, have only seen it during our Shinkansen rides) and possibly stay a night in that area. We are also planning on going to Kanazawa for a night and we want to experience a ryokan there, preferably one that allows tattoos! Kind of iffy if we want to visit Nagoya but if we get the JR Central Tourist Pass we may, let us know if that’s a smart thing to do.

July 23: Travel back to the states

Thank you guys!
