My interview is soon, and I’m asking this just to be 100% certain. When drafting my application, one person I talked to mentioned that I shouldn’t mention anime/manga at all in my application as I would in their words “be shooting \[my\]self in the foot,” I heeded their advice, and I did get accepted for an interview. However, I am very much and avid consumer of anime and manga, and part of me feels as if it would be dishonest if I didn’t mention something about it during the interview (only if they prompted me about it first, of course). Especially given how within the past few years anime/manga has become a very mainstream form of entertainment. I don’t want to give off the impression that I’m just another guy who really likes anime/manga who applied to JET solely to live in Japan and nothing else. I have a plan for JET, and I have a plan after JET. Last year when I did an interview, during the Japanese section I did mention I liked manga and named one (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険), and I think it went over fine. Although I didn’t get accepted into JET, so maybe that could be one of if not the reason I wasn’t. Again, I’m asking this just so I can be completely certain whether or not mentioning it is something I should completely avoid.
