Kyushu Itinerary Check – 5 days in Winter (End of Jan)

Hey everyone!

Friends and I are going to Japan next January and will be spending 5 days in Kyushu. We’d love to receive feedback and advice on our current plan please:

**Thursday 01/23: Fukuoka**

* Arrive at Fukuoka in the afternoon/evening. Chill day, walk around, discover etc

**Friday 01/24: Fukuoka & nearby towns**

* Go and visit Daizaifu and Nanzoin during the day, back to Fukuoka later for misc activities

**Saturday 01/25: Mt Aso & Kumamoto**

* Travel to Mt. Aso in the morning for a small hike & to take in the scenery, then stop at Kumamoto on the way back to visit & sightsee.
* Back to Fukuoka at night

**Sunday 01/26: Nagasaki**

* Arrive to Nagasaki in the morning, full day there & misc activities, sleep in Nagasaki

**Monday 01/27: Nagasaki**

* Full day in Nagasaki, misc activities & visits

**Tuesday 01/28: Leave for Tokyo in the morning**

Here are some of the questions we have:

We’re hesitating between spending 2 days in Nagasaki vs spending 2 days around Kumamoto & Mt Aso vs ditching Nagasaki and spending 2 days in Beppu. Can people please share their experience and what we can expect ? Our rationale is:

* Stay in Nagasaki 2 days for conventional tourism & sightseeing
* OR
* Stay near Mt aso/Kumamoto for 2 days for a more relaxed & longer hike + sleeping around Mt Aso means good Onsens at night & beautiful scenery. We’d just do a day trip to nagasaki instead of sleeping there.
* OR
* Ditch Nagasaki completely and go to Beppu instead for 2 days

We’d also LOVE to get some recommendations of great local places to see and visit, food wise/experience wise/sightseeing wise that aren’t in everyone’s guides & youtube videos if possible 🙂

Thank you so much for reading!
