In response to user feedback, this is a recurring thread for general discussion about learning Japanese, and for asking your questions about grammar, learning resources, and so on. Let’s come together and share our successes, what we’ve been reading or watching and chat about the ups and downs of Japanese learning.
The /r/Japanese rules (see [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/japanese/about/rules/)) still apply! Translation requests still belong in /r/translator and we ask that you be helpful and considerate of both your own level and the level of the person you’re responding to. If you have a question, please check the subreddit’s [frequently asked questions](https://www.reddit.com/r/japanese/?f=flair_name%3A%22FAQ%E3%83%BB%E3%82%88%E3%81%8F%E3%81%82%E3%82%8B%E8%B3%AA%E5%95%8F%22), but we won’t be as strict as usual on the rules here as we are for standalone threads.

Help …
I’m gonna write my Bachelor Thesis in japanese language now, we’re allowed to write about anything japan-related and it’s gonna be 10-12 pages long. I’ve decided I want to write about Yokai, and maybe Yokai representation in modern media and culture, but I cannot find my thesis question / case study. Can anyone here help me find (sentence with ? at the end) that I can start researching, I’m having complete blackout ;-;
Should I create my own radicals?
I have been going through a radical deck based on RTK recently and I was replacing the original names for primitives with my own as I find it easier to memorise that way. However, it occurred to me that the original radical names are often based on the actual meaning of the symbols, and in learning it with the original definitions I may be able to glean the meaning of Kanji I don’t know by noticing what combination of radicals it uses. Is this actually the case, does it work like this? If I make my own names for the radicals, will this impact my understand of Kanji in the future?
i understand how adding a small ya or yu works(makes u half pronounce the letter before thus making a diff sound eg- kyu) so is the only difference between tsu and the charecter that makes u repeat consonants their size?
