A unique situation, but is it worth the risk?

Good morning all,

I wanted a bit of advice if possible to what I regard as a slightly unique situation…

As background, I am 32 years old and currently a paramedic in the Military in the UK. i have had a great career deploying all over the world but i feel it is time for a change. I have my own house and a “decent” wage in the UK (7.5 million yen per year) I have visited Japan twice and fallen in love with the culture and history of the place, I feel I have a itch to scratch and have been researching the possibilities of moving to Japan.

The teaching route seems a good start to get “my foot in the door” Instructing has always been a passion of mine and I spent 3 years teaching new recruits (aged 16 for 6 month blocks) From this I gained a Level 3 in Assessing Vocational Achievement. I am granted a resettlement allowance that would pay for a TEFL (120 hours) and a CELTA.

I totally understand that I will start from the bottom, I do not expect to be wealthy, I will have some income from renting my property in the UK which will boost my salary by about 36,000 Yen a month.

Is this just a pipe dream? Will I become a ALT and struggle to progress further? Does my prior experience hold any value?

Any help would be much appreciated.
