  1. I feel bad for bus drivers who have to deal with this crap. I remember sitting on a bus one day and looking out the window and only realized one of those things was beside the bus because the wind changed directions and made their flag fly perpendicular to the bus rather than parallel to it. Granted the bus driver has a better view than passengers but it goes to show how hard those things are to see.

  2. It’s a matter of time before someone gets tragically killed, then these foreigners complain about condition of Japanese justice system.

  3. We get some asshats on this site claiming they are safe and operated in a professional manner and are easily visible and I say bullshit on all three of those. I’m a car driver and those fuckers are HARD to see, they blend into surrounding lights at night and are so low.

Complete nuisance, should be off the roads

  4. These things look mildly fun in a YouTube short with some le quirky Japan angle aimed at weeb tourists, but after seeing them IRL they’re obscenely cringe and probably unsafe.

  5. Aside from how annoying and unsafe they seem to be, I cannot fathom the attraction.

I love Mario Kart as much as anyone but this is not in any way, like being in “real-life Mario Kart” or whatever.

  6. No shit. The combination of embarrassingly dumb gaijins + dangerous mode of transportation can’t end well. It’s only a matter of time before someone is killed.

  7. When I was a tourist, it looked really interesting to me. Never got a chance to try it.

Then I started staying here. Everything I drive into those places, I see these karts. They are not pleasant to deal with

  8. I’m Australian and I so love Japan. Any time I hear someone wanting to do this I strongly tell them not to. That it’s such an obnoxious, bogan thing to do.

  9. I had no idea this was even a thing, let alone that it’s been a thing since *2012*.

This is the absolute *dumbest* idea I’ve ever heard of. Imagine tourists on gokarts ripping through Paris or New York streets.

  10. Just a few weeks ago I saw a guy get out of his car (stopped at a red light) just to scream at these people

  11. What is liability like in Japan? It just seems insane for a business to trust random foreigners or locals to drive on actual streets where they can cause accidents and either injure or be injured by vehicles and pedestrians.

  12. Has to be one of the top 5 on the list of cringe things tourists can do while in Japan.
