Hello everyone! My boyfriend and I are heading to Japan this May/June (I know, it’s late, I know), and I’ve been tasked with finding us a nice ryokan to stay in to have that fancy kaiseki/onsen experience. He has a tattoo, so I’m primarily looking for ryokan with rooms that have open-air baths. It’s our first trip, and we’re doing 18 days in Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka, so I was thinking that Hakone would be the place to do it. It seems to be easily accessible with the Romancecar.
I’ve been looking, trust me, but my boyfriend wants to look some more to find the perfect ryokan for the right price. I’m just afraid the room I found at Yama no Chaya would get booked while we’re searching for something “better”.
– Gora Kadan is out. Their only available room doesn’t have an open air bath.
– Hakone Ginyu is a bit of a hassle to book, and I don’t have the time for that rn.
– Kinnotake/Golden Bamboo is really nice. We’re just considering the price.
– Yama no Chaya is also nice. I’d go for this but bf still wants to look for something else.
– Nanaougi/Seirakuen in Atsugi looks beautiful with their renovated rooms. Cheaper compared to other luxury ryokan. Anyone have any experience with them?
– Matsuzakaya Honten. Bf wasn’t really convinced (and it looks like they’re doing renovations during our stay?).
– Takefue. Ohhhh, if only this were in Honshu. Anyone know any ryokan like this near Tokyo/Kyoto?
Any ideas/experiences would be appreciated!
