Universal Studios Japan tips/thoughts

At USJ waiting on yet another line and thought I’d share some reflections and tips.

1- Super Nintendo World — we didn’t get to buy the timed area pass ahead of time because there were none available online. Saw on here that if you don’t buy online or get to the park stupid early, you won’t make it in, but that wasn’t our experience. We found some computers in the park (can’t remember where exactly, but before Harry Potter world), where we could show the QR code of our studio passes and book ourselves a timed entry for later the same day. It’s super cool and very worth it!

2- Harry Potter World — waited 2 hours for Harry Potter and the forbidden journey ride. Extremely not worth it IMO. It was nauseating. Most of it just shakes you around while a big screen gives you sort of a VR experience without the headset. My partner and I spent most of the time with our eyes closed so we didn’t vomit and I had to sit down after.

Also, butter beer tastes meh but if you’re dying to try it, forget the lines outside. Go to the 3 broomsticks. Not much in the way of lines.

3 – LINES — so many lines for everything, even the food. If you can get the express pass, do, but need to do it in advance because they sell out. However, we have been able to slash our waiting time in half by going on the singles lines. You can’t ride together but who cares? Most rides are less than 5 min anyway.

4- Food — again, massive lines for food as well. I’m vegetarian and struggled to find anything that’s not popcorn or French fries. I did find a vegetarian Irish stew at 3 broomsticks that was delicious. There’s also pizza in New York village. Slim pickings otherwise.

They let you into the park with your own food but ask that you don’t eat it inside, however I reckon you can easily get away with it. There are so many people!! Just be discreet.

Also to avoid some lines, try eating not at peak time. I didn’t wait at all for my Irish stew at around 3pm.

5- Sunglasses — not much shade so I wish I brought my sunnies.
