16 Days Itinerary Check (January 2025): Tokyo > Osaka/Kyoto > Kyushu > Tokyo

Hey everyone!

My friends and I (group of 3) will be visiting Japan in January 2025, we’ll have approx 16 full days to visit.

We spent time researching and reviewing others reddit posts & online review, but with this being being our first time in Japan, we’d love to get some feedback & additional suggestions on what we have planned so far!

What do you think, does this itinerary look feasible ? You may notice we have a lot of day trips from Fukuoka as base, worried if it might be too much or if it’s okay to do ? Also we’re thinking of getting the national JR pass as we’re travelling across Japan, is this still a good idea after the cost increases ?

Any recommendations from locals & seasoned travelers are very welcome 🙂

  1. Daifuku? Do you mean Dazaifu? Nanzoin is also nearby and very impressive.

That’s a lot of travel time from Fukuoka. Think about a staying in Beppu or take a ryokan in Yufuin.

You are a fan of amusement parks or why Huis Ten Bosch?

Check out the rail pass calculator to see if it’s cheaper:

  2. This really depends on whether or not you are focused on historical culture vs modern culture. Loads of things to do in Tokyo and Osaka. Some temples. Some historical elements. Mostly current pieces. Kyoto is all about the Shinto elements and history. You could easily spend all of your time right there whenever your focus is more candle light than bright urban vibes. Fukuoka is the San Diego of Japan; beautiful and fun, albeit not mentally challenging. It is the easiest place on your list. Nagasaki/Beppu/Kumamoto are east day trips. Easy launching point for a quick jaunt to Korea.
