Acceptable footwear in Japan
Hey everyone! This group has been very helpful with information. I am taking my first trip to Japan next week and doing all the usual places for first timers.
Unfortunately, I recently broke my foot and have nearly fully recovered, but I’m a bit worried about all the walking in Japan.
I’m most comfortable in athletic shoes (ASICS), but I’m not sure if that footwear is acceptable to wear through Japan?
I’m trying to balance being respectful of Japanese customs with my ability to walk 15-20k steps a day for 2 weeks straight.
What footwear do you bring to Japan typically? Is it acceptable to wear just athletic shoes the whole time? We aren’t doing anything super fancy while there, just walking and eating our way through the country.
