  1. another joke that went over my head?

    > まあこの歳できなり怪異だの超能力バトルだのに巻きもまれたところで「主人公に娘の思い出話をして死んでいくモブ」が関の山だ。

    > 娘いないけど。

Context: Something weird is happening to the main character, and he’s always thinking these snide things whenever anything happens.

I guess it’s saying something like, at his age he shouldn’t be getting caught up in some weird supernatural battle and then he says something about it’s the best he can do to give a reminiscent talk about his daughter (he has no kids) and something about a mob. But I find this very hard to understand.

  2. やっぱこれからも絵は朝に上げてこ!

    How does this sentence work?

    I read it as

やっぱ (also) これから (from now on) も (as well) 絵 (drawing) 朝にあげてこ (to raise in the morning).

Together I make of it: “Also, from now on i’ll put up a drawing in the morning as well!”

What I want to know is:

How is あげる used here exactly (the definition of “to upload” i’m assuming is not on Jisho)

How is も used here exactly? Was I correct on “as well.”

Also, I want to ask how can I possibly overcome Japanese word order throwing me for a loop so much? I know, immersion, but.. I completed N5 grammar, 350 kanji learned, but word order just kills me. Obviously i’m using English as a crutch, but I can’t overcome that. If I don’t comprehend the Japanese sentence in English, I certainly can’t comprehend the Japanese itself?

  3. TIL: if a student is taking a class, then it’s 授業を受けます。if it’s a teacher, then it’s 授業をします。

im suffering emotional damage from having wrongly told people how often i have been giving JP classes. and i apologise.

  4. 「country bumpkin/ im a frog in a well」って英語の意味はわかっていますが、日本語でそのセルフを使いたいですが、田舎者と お上り様は悪口ですか?説明してもいいでしょうか

    Ex:

A: do you watch Friends on Netflix?
    B: No
A: really?! then that must be because of a generation gap!! (I’m an AUNTYYYYYY/emotional damage time)
B: no no no, im a frog in a well, thats why i don’t watch Friends on Netflix. (emotional damage time no. 2)
