Favorite personal mnemonics?

I think most of us probably use mnemonics of one sort or another to remember kanji and words.

What are some of your favorites?

I have two to share.

First up, 羊 (ひつじ). It means “sheep”. This is basically Wanikani’s mnemonic, “**hits Je**sus”. I have a very funny image in my head of a sheep hitting Jesus and he’s sent flying in a cartoon-ish fashion.

The other is 緊張 (きんちう). It means “nervousness, stress, tension, strain”. Wanikani introduced “Ms. Chou” who shows up in a lot of their mnemonics, so I always think of Ms. Chou anytime I see ちょう. I imagine her to be this little old lady that is stern and rather intimidating. For 緊張, I imagine Ms. Chou standing there, painted like a gold (金/きん) statue just doing a T-pose and not moving, pretending to be a statue (like those street performers). Thinking of this makes me really nervous…
