Hi, this is going to be a long post so apologies for that, but I really appreciate anyone’s thoughts on this
Essentially I’m deciding if I should move to Japan for language school in 2023 or 2024. I’ve been trying to get to Japan for years so I’m itching to go, but I also know by waiting a year I’ll be more comfortable
So here’s the situation
If I go in April 2023, I’ll have roughly $11k USD saved, this is AFTER first 6 months tuition of language school paid, and flight to Japan is paid. So in other words, I’ll have enough money to get approved for the second 6th months that I’ll need to show immigration. My plan is to get a part time job so I don’t have to dig into savings, and I can always have that $10k to show immigration. I think it’s fair to assume by doing this I’ll get through the 2 years of language school just fine, paying 6 months at a time
My concern is, I want to stay in Japan long-term. I don’t have a degree so this means I’ll need to go to Uni after (not sure what school or degree yet, but just a cheaper national one) I worry that if I need to show even more than $10k for the first year of college, that I just won’t be able to and have to go back home
>Side note: scholarships probably won’t be an option as I wasn’t a great student in high school lol
That got me thinking maybe I should just wait another year and come with like $20k. Obviously that’s the safer method. It’s taken me a long time to finally have a chance to go and I’m feeling a bit stir crazy, but maybe I just need to accept that I would be in a more stable situation this way
Anyways, I’m curious to hear other people’s stories if you have them. Do you regret only having 6 months savings? or were you able to pull off getting to Uni. Also, I can’t find much info on it for some reason, but what’s the standard amount you need to show immigration to enter Uni? I assume you need a whole year worth right? I doubt it’s like language school where you can do 6 months at a time, but maybe I’m wrong. Thanks!
