I’ll be in Japan for a year. When I first arrived I got the 1 month welcome Suica Card which is now expired.
As far as I understand they discontinued making suica cards. I can’t get Suica on my phone because it’s an Android made outside of Japan. So adding a card to a virtual wallet is impossible. I don’t have any other devices.
What are my options here? I really don’t want to spend a year buying tickets at the machines.
I understand some people get a commuter pass. I’m not 100% sure how this works and whether this can lead to getting a Suica. I don’t commute to work using the train, I walk. Therefore if I got a commuter pass would I be able to use it as a regular suica card in other situations? Because I would not be using it for commuting.
I hear it’s possible to get passmo / suica outside of Tokyo, is this true? I’m going to be visiting Niigata in a few weeks. Could I potentially get a card in Niigata and use it in Tokyo when I return?
Anybody who could help me figure out my best option, I really appreciate you. I feel so screwed!
