Customs declaration for instruments

Hello, I am still unsure about whether or not I will bring my violin with me to Japan right now when I go, because Qatar Airways is not friendly with this unlike Turkish Airlines, but in the event that I decide to either put it in my checked bag or my mother brings it at a later date, do I have to specifically declare it at customs (or her)? I have already filled the Visit Japan Web form, it didn’t mention anything about musical instruments, I also looked it up on Google and this subreddit, but there are no clear answers, Google only starts showing me medication and such rules, or it starts talking about instrument rules in other countries. My violin teacher said that I will probably have to declare it but he’s not the most knowledgeable person in the field, his son is in the US, that’s the extent if their experience. Now I’m looking around the Internet like a madman because I don’t really want to leave my 3000€ baby behind. If it’s only about a delay, I don’t mind renting one, but I don’t want to buy a new one. Anybody who has done this before or has some experience with this? Thanks!
