I just got hired in Japan and will be moving there in May from the US (Missouri, to be specific). Unfortunately the job doesn’t provide moving assistance. I was wondering if anyone knew of what the cheapest and most reliable services would be to move my personal property over there. I plan on filling my suitcases and carry-on with as much as I can, but it won’t be enough. I’ll still need some way to get my books, collectibles, gaming stuff, craft supplies, etc. I don’t need anything too big, as I plan on selling my furniture here, and restocking once I’m settled in Japan. I’ve already looked at Yamato and the minimum will be $1700 by air or $1800 by sea. Was wondering if any other services existed that are cheaper with similar or better quality of service.
Edit: For the people saying don’t take my stuff, thanks for the advice, but that’s not happening. I didn’t ask what I should and shouldn’t take. I asked what services there are to move them. My books are how I get away from screen time, and the others are things I’ve picked up over several years, and just replacing all my supplies would cost more than shipping them. My hobbies are my life. I’m not just leaving them behind. I’ll be living in Japan indefinitely, so just leaving to come home to later isn’t an option.
That said, I will have my mother sending my stuff after I get there and find an apartment. Until then, I’ll be staying with my gf, and she definitely doesn’t have the room for all my stuff on top of hers in her apartment.
