First off, I apologize if this topic has already been listed here, but i’ve been scouring the internet and just haven’t found an answer which is why I have hesitated to post on this thread.
My partner and I are currently applying for an artist visa in Japan. At the moment, we are also looking to purchase an apartment. We come here often and would love to have a place of our own. What we have on hand in cash is enough to get something, but ideally, we’d love to get some kind of mortgage so we’re not throwing down all of our savings at once.
Has anyone had any experience with understanding whether a bank can give a loan to someone on a visa who doesn’t have permanent residency? I’m planning to take a trip to the SMBC bank in Akasaka or Hiroo to speak to someone in person to hopefully get a greater understanding, but any insight from anyone would be greatly appreciated!
