Hello all,
I will be visiting Japan the first time end of May, with my family and my elderly parents. My dad is 82 and not physically strong, he can walk but not too much (like not more than 5 minutes without getting a rest). I intend to rent a car when arriving at Nagoya airport and will borrow wheelchairs from hotels or from the places we will be visiting where possible.
Ideally, we want to travel slow and comfortably, so here is the planned itineraries:
Day 1 – Arriving at Nagoya in the morning, and earlier check in to hotel for some rest, walk around Osu, visit Chubu Tower at evening, maybe Nagoya Castle for night view
Day 2 – Port of Nagoya aquarium until 2pm, Kiyosu Castle, Guju Hachiman, dinner and stay at Takayama
Day 3 – Shinhotaka ropeway, Komikochi, stay Takayama
Day 4 – Sanmachi, Shirakawago, Hida, stay Takayama
Day 5 – Alpine Route to Murodo and return, stay Toyama
Day 6 – Kurobe Gorge Railway, tea ceremony, some shopping, stay Toyama (are there still snow crabs at first week of June?)
Day 7 – Higashi/Kazuemachi Chaya district, Kibune, stay Kyoto (not sure worth visiting old streets at Kanazawa without a wheelchair, I reckon its the same as Takayama?)
Day 8 – Kinkaku-Ji, Bamboo forest, Arashiyama Tsusen boat ride, Kimono forest, stay Kyoto (any temples open at night during this time except for Inari Shrine and Yasaka Shrine?)
Day 9 – Kiyomizu-Dera, Gion, Yasaka Shrine, Inari Shrine, Nishiki market, stay Kyoto (considering to visit Inari and Yasaka at night to avoid crowd)
Day 10 – Nara Park, Todaiji, Omihachiman, stay near Nagoya airport for flight the next morning
Seeking ideas to make the trip more comfortable and open for any alternative suggestions. Would also like to have some recommendations of cultural shows.
Thanks to all, cheers!
