JONAH is pretty much out, the only way he could win it’s if Okada and Archer get into a no contest, which is highly unlikely
Surely there is no way D block would end up in a 7-way tiebreaker right, surely. How would they even book it if that actually happen? A 7-way elimination match, a ladder match?
Gedo must have been laughing like a madman as he planned out the booking for D block.
I know this hasn’t been the best G1 and the format is wobbly, but I don’t know that they’d ever try something this experimental with the booking in a two block format.
Some predictable elements here.
White is surely going to run the A block at this point. Traditionally the guy who spoils the champion’s G1 gets the pre-WK shot, and I don’t see Tama headlining a major NJPW show in that slot, unless he’s a way stronger draw than I’ve always thought. At this point I think Jay maybe even makes it to the finals and we get a WK teaser. They don’t usually book that though so maybe Tama does spoil him after all.
Okada probably goes through B block. It really seemed to be either Jonah or Okada but Jonah’s functionally eliminated at this point. It seems very unlikely to me that Archer goes to the semis.
Naito’s obviously doing his usual come from behind schtick in C.
D block is just wild. Assuming C v D winners, Shingo going through D would make for a hell of a semifinal and I think the most compelling unique matchup since stablemates in general don’t face each other in NJPW. If not him, Finlay is still an interesting outlier, since we don’t know any larger plans for him he could easily go through. Ospreay is the standard go-to, and I think most likely to win.
If they’re going to keep the 4 blocks up, I need them to just to a block per night, and 6 or 8 in each. The weird number of matches for each detracts from it imo
what does the wrestlers with their names in color red mean? That they no longer have a chance to clasify to the next phase?
I like how I still can’t decide who wins the B block and that makes it much more exciting than the obvious Okada and Naito win, plus I still think Shingo takes D block ever since they got announced, no way they are actually doing the very cool very nice 7-way tie.
Jay winning makes sense. Unbeatable champion, Okada is not winning the G1 so if he pins Jay he gets a title shot maybe Night 1.
Yet Jay looked strong against Tama and basically ate his lunch on that tag team match, as a matter of fact, nothing that has been building this feud tells me Jay is suppose to be winning. And if Tama wins, advances, loses to Okada, and Naito wins the G1…what credit does Okada have to challenge for the title? Because I can’t see him anywhere else at Wrestle Kingdom besides VS Jay White.
I also believe in Tama’s mega babyface push, all thought I still see him vs Karl Anderson at Wrestle Kingdom.
Maybe even a draw works? Jay doesn’t lose, Tama doesn’t lose, Tama can say the champ couldn’t beat him, it’s fresh, Jay advances, Okada gets his thing, Tama looks extremely good on ONLY losing to Ishii, going undefeated since and not falling to the champ.
Or maybe Karl comes back, costs Tama the match, sets it up for Wreste Kingdom since Tama also doesn’t really have a shot at that belt because…he’s done nothing.
