New to Japan and want to learn accurate history. My family over here don’t seem super knowledgeable about museums and stuff. They probably went as kids and don’t care anymore just like me about where I grew up. And google has been giving me terrible results for things I’m looking for.
I’m sort of a nerd and want to see how accurate ninja and samurai stuff is portrayed in anime, media, video games, etc. I also find Japan’s history extremely interesting in general. Also interested in history as told from their perspective.
I really really love legends. So what I’m really hoping for is finding somewhere where I can see famous swords, armor, famous paintings of legendary swordsmen, etc. and also learn a lot of what it was actually like. Would truly love to see a Masamune or Muramasa sword in real life. I’ll get to other art and stuff eventually, but I need to scratch this itch first.
I know there are some great places around Tokyo, and a lot of great reading material. But I’m currently looking for places near me so I can see stuff in person. I’m also taking some of my family too, so I’d like for it to be interesting for them too which is part of why I’m posting here.
