Engineers, how much is/was your salary for your 1st year in Japan

My post got deleted even though it fits better on Japanlife since it was aimed at people in their first few years working in Japan. So here we go again!

Let’s reach a good consensus on this rather than having so many posts asking, “Is x salary good for engineers in Japan?”.

Listing your educational background, experience, work location and type of work/position is also appreciated.

Nuclear Engineer BS in Oregon State University and MEng in UC Berkeley

2-3 years experience ranging from research to driving a reactor

The offer: 375k monthly (4.5M yearly) + about 1M for relocation, which includes plane ticket, shipping my belongings, and 1st-month living costs in Japan. This is in 2024, I will be working in Tokyo Meguro-ku, doing reactor design.

My thoughts: Net salary is 290K yen/mo (3.5M annual). I was hoping to receive more since 1BR apartment + utilities are around 100K monthly.

I’m not US Citizen/green card, almost impossible to find nuclear work in the US. Going to Japan for work experience to bring back to America in the future. Nuclear companies in the US sponsor green cards for mid-level career
