Job Hunting while in Japan

Hi everyone,

Sorry this is gonna be another software post 😆.

I’m a fresh Canadian engineering graduate with experience from a one-year internship in Japan. Due to the market in Canada, I’ve decided to take my return offer to Japan, where my contract will be just under a year.

I’m interested in finding a software job at a different company in Japan. While my background is more on the data side (focusing on ML data pipelines and analysis), I also have experience with hardware and software projects. My Japanese has gotten rough (N3) since I left Japan but I’ll likely start grinding that out again.

I’m wondering if already being in Japan will help my job search, considering my visa will likely only be for one year. I’m also looking to apply for North American roles after my contract ends, and I’m open to going wherever my future job takes me.

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Edit: The project I’m working on is ending this year, so it’s unlikely that I’m staying at the same company when my contract is finished.
