Paying for a Y Mobile phone plan with American credit card under the name in Katakana

Today, I got a Y Mobile Phone plan in Japan. When they asked for the payment, I gave them my American credit card because that is all I have. When they tried to enter my name on the card in English (Japanese keyboard and stretched/enlarged English letters) the Y Mobile system rejected it because it wants in “Katakana”. So the worker there entered my name in actual Katakana (I have Japanese name), submitted it and told me that “payment was verified and it went through” on their part. Do you think that my credit card company (SOFI) will reject my phone plan payment later when they processed it and found out that the name is written in different language?

Thank you for help, in advance.

  1. this is a problem of domestic card payment provider having weird things about foreign cards, so if it has been approved in their system then you’re done you’re not going to have any further problems.

  2. I think you can be cautiously optimistic but you should wait to see if the next regular payment will go through without a hitch. In the meantime, open a bank account (can be difficult, too) so you have an alternative way to pay them if for whatever reason the credit card won’t work.
