Thinking about AKASAKA as a base of operations… should we just spend the extra money and stay in Shibuya or Shinjuku ?

Visiting Tokyo for the first time and looking at hotels in the different districts. I’ve seen a lot of people on this sub recommend Akasaka as an alternative to the more popular areas, so I’ve been investigating…

Akasaka — not to be confused with Asakusa — is a nice area that is centrally located with quick access to a train station. Hotels near Akasaka Station are reasonably priced, and there is a good selection of restaurants close by.

BUT… It isn’t located on the Yamanote Line (something a lot of Japan ‘experts’ recommend for first-timers), AND… it’s not as “cool” or “iconic” as some other Tokyo districts.
