SBI Shinsei bank transfer error

I’ve been using SBI Shinsei for a couple of years now with no issues transfering money or entering new transfer recipient details.

This week I tried to add details for a new transfer and got this message and error code:

“This service is currently unavailable. Please wait for a while and perform the procedure again. (CME0004)”

After searching the website FAQs, I was directed here:
https://faq.sbishinseibank.co.jp/faq_detail.html?page=500&id=888996

I’ve tried clearing my cache as the help page suggests, and I have the right OS plus a more up-to-date browser (Windows 10 and Chrome 121), but the same error message keeps appearing. Unless they want me to downgrade to an earlier version of Chrome, I don’t see what the problem is.

I first tried to make the transfer while I was travelling in South Korea, but I’m having the same issue now that I’m back in Japan. It’s been three days of the same now.

I contacted Shinsei via their website and got a reply regurgitating the info from the FAQ page (despite the fact that I explained in my message I’d tried that already).

Has anyone else had this issue, or know what the solution might be?

Thanks in advance.

  1. I got a similar error a couple of weeks ago on chrome when I tried adding a new beneficiary. After a few unsuccessful tries on the computer, I was able to do it on the app on my phone and had no trouble.

  2. This happens. Its their trash website. It used happen a lot but I haven’t seen in 6 or 7 months. Just try again in 30mins.

  3. have you tried calling? … they’ve been very helpful to me in the past and English is available

  4. Typical troubleshooting tips:

    1. Use the app on your phone, this will work 99.9% of the time as long as your bank is functioning.

If you really want to use your desktop browser, then try these steps:

    1. Make sure your adblocker is disabled for your bank’s domains. They often block based on patterns and this can result in blocking things your bank website actually needs to function.

    2. If that doesn’t work, then use an incognito tab/window of your main browser, making sure ALL extensions/plugins are disabled.

    3. If that still doesn’t work, try a different browser (Firefox instead of Chrome, etc) with no plugins/extensions.

  5. This happens to me when Chrome decides to start translating pages from Japanese to English again. Disable that (as in temporarily remove the language settings entirely), restart your browser, and see if that helps.
