Itinerary- @ Takayama, Shirakawago, Hirayu/Alps
We’re traveling from Kyoto to Takayama area and have 3 nights.
Looks like we’ll spend 4-5 hrs just getting there so we arrive Takayama mid day.
I have 2 different lodgings reserved
Takayama (in the city – no onsen)
Or
Hirayu (an hour east by bus, great onsen, truly off the beaten path)
Staying in an onsen is desired and I don’t mind if I have to break up the nights (1 night Takayama 2 nights Hirayu or vice versa)
So here are the activities that are important to us:
– shirakawago by bus 45 min west- I’ve been told we only need a half day
– Takayama proper – 1 day
– Hirayu- a hike and waterfalls
I’m wondering if we should just check into hotel in Takayama, then bus it quickly to shirakawago. Or do that evening in Takayama.
Then – if we do 1st night /dinner in Takayama, does it sound crazy to bus to/from shirakawago on day 2 (45 min each way) and if we do that— should we spend the night in Takayama, or just check out- bus it to Hirayu for night 2, and wake up in Hirayu
Hike day 3 near Hirayu and sleep there, and then add an extra bus to the next morning — essentially 1 hr to Takayama and another 5 hours to go Hida wide view express to Nagoya, Nagoya to Miyajima (near Fuji) to get to next place ( fujikawaguchiko)
YES. It’s a lot of travel. Yes we’re up for it. For one long day.
We love outdoors and hiking and waterfalls and onsen so I don’t want to fully cut Hirayu from the plan. I guess— advice on itinerary would be most welcome 🙏🏼
