Currently I get \~36man en from the japanese government in the form of a research fellowship, and one perk of this is that I don’t pay any tax on this stipend, so I get to keep everything.
I’m also looking to apply for PR though, and I’ve heard that you must pay tax for years before you apply. Will having this stipend, which does not pay any tax, hinder my ability to apply for PR?
