Onsens and the post-cancer body

Hi. My S.O. and I will be touring Japan for the month of April. In particular, we will stop in Kanazawa and visit the nearby onsen towns.

I am recovering from breast cancer treatment. My head is still partially bald and I wear a wig. One of my breasts is now much smaller than the other and deformed. I have a tiny dot tattoo between them that was used for body placement during radiotherapy. My scars are small though.

I worry that I will be stared at or worse when showering and bathing with the other women at the onsens. Will it be possible to wrap a small towel around my bald head? Will the dot be a problem?

Outside of onsens, how do the Japanese react to cancer survivors? To people with a wig, body asymmetries? I know that they care a lot about aesthetics, physical beauty and health and I feel ugly and unhealthy.
