Itinerary Check: A Month Across Japan, First Time

Hi Everyone

My wife and I are going to Japan for the first time in May and are beyond excited. Having never been, I am not sure if what I have planned for our itinerary is at all feasible and would love any advice and recommendations out there.

We are heading west from Tokyo to Fukuoka and spending three days in Seoul, South Korea before returning to Japan for the rest of our holiday, heading back east back towards Tokyo.

On our trip we are wanting to see a good mix of history, culture and 90’s/00’s video games and anime. We want to experience the theme parks as we have never been to any and get lost exploring the cities wonderful night life that we don’t get at home.

Thank you in advance for all of your suggestions and can’t wait to explore this beautiful country.

\- Day 1: Arrive at Narita Airport (quite late)

\- Day 2: Head into Tokyo and do Disney Sea

\- Day 3: Visit Senso-Ji Temple, Tokyo Sky Tree & Ueno Park during the day. Explore Akihabara in the evening.

\- Day 4: Tokyo Disney Land

\- Day 5: Travel to Fujinomiya and visit the Mt Fuji Heritage Centre, then continue later in the day to Shizuoka and see the Toro Park Arcaelogical site and Sunpu Castle.

\- Day 6: Travel to Osaka and see Osaka Castle, Shitenno-Ji Temple and explore Tennoji Park. Visit Dotonbori in the evening.

\- Day 7: Visit Osaka Kaiyukan Aquarium and the Umeda Sky Building observation deck. Head to Nipponbaski Den-Den town for shopping.

\- Day 8: Universal Studios Japan

\- Day 9: Day trip to Nara seeing Kofuku-Ji Temple, Todai-Ji Temple and the bowing Deer.

\- Day 10: Travel to Fukuoka and visit the Castle Ruins, Ohori Park and Fukuoka Tower, with a visit to Tenjin area to experience the Yati Stalls in the evening.

\- Day 11: Short trip to Nanzoin to see the famous statue. Heading back to Fukuoka to visit Hakata Old Town including Tochoji Temple.

\- Days 12 – 14: Seoul South Korea

\- Day 15: Flying back to Fukuoka and heading to Hiroshima. Take the ferry to Miyajima to see the Itsukushima Jinja Tori Gate. Ferry back to Hiroshima and visit the Memorial park and Museum.

\- Day 16: Travel to Kyoto and explore the Imperial Palace and National Gardens. Spend the evening around Gion.

\- Day 17: Explore the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and Tenryu-Ji Temple. Afterwards head to the Monkey Park and jump on the Sagano Romantic Train for a return trip to Kameoka.

\- Day 18: Head to Fushimi Inari and hike through the Torii Gates. Afterwards head to Kinkaku-Ji Temple.

\- Day 19: Travel to Nagoya and check out Nagoya Castle then the Toyota Commemorative Museum. Explore around the TV Tower in the evening.

\- Day 20: Checkout the Nagoya Science Museum, followed by shopping and arcades around Matsuzakaya Mall.

\- Day 21: Travel back to Tokyo and head to Shibuya. Spend the evening wandering around Shibuya and the Shibuya Sky Observation Deck.

\- Day 22: Day trip down to Kamakura, visiting the Kotoku-In shrine, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu & Hokoku-Ji Temples. Travel back up and stop in Yokohama to see the Giant Gundam and explore Chinatown. Travel across the rainbow bridge and do the Teamlabs Planets experience in the evening.

\- Day 23: Last full day in Tokyo, explore Shinjuku including the Hanazono Shrine, Kabukicho tower and spend the evening wandering around the Golden Gai streets.

\- Day 24: Travel back to Narita to sadly head back home.
