What’s the Point of Learning the Meaning of Kanji?

Sorry if this sounds naive or stupid, but I’ve been learning kanji through Remembering the Kanji, and have come across a bunch of niche kanji. I understand the use of kanji in vocabulary, but what is the main reason for just learning what they represent, without knowing their reading or pronunciation?
