Sleeping on futons broad shoulders

I’m not sure if this has been addressed before. I moved to Japan about 9 months ago. I am currently living with my gf in a studio apartment with a lof. We have a queen-sized futon. I find it very uncomfortable as I often sleep on my side. I am 175cm and have been told I have broad shoulders. When I move to my side, I feel my pillow is too low. So, I’ve been using 2 pillows when sleeping on my side but the top one falls out of place by the time I wake up. I’ve been waking up with migraines the last few months. Is there any solution to this? I’ve asked my gf to buy a mattress but she says there’s not enough room.

**Just a quick update:**

First thank you to everyone for your suggestions. I went with a large pillowcase filled with small plastic tubes. Hearing about the possible allergies with the buckwheat seeds, gf and I decided plastic may be safer and more convenient (washing, etc.). I also bought a foam mat that I place under my side of the futon (it’s about 8cm thick). So far, I have been sleeping significantly better. Still getting used to the noise when shifting but other than that, it’s been great!
