I live in central Tokyo in a l stand-alone old house in a family friendly neighborhood. The neighborhood “thug” (I call him that because of his shaved head, black skater attire and black bmx style e-bike) tosses his cigarette butts without fail every morning then again every evening and sometimes late night right at my doorstep. I live in the only stand-alone house on the block, no gates, and for some reason I feel he’s just targeting my family because we are gaijin. I prefer to be non-conforntational as I’ve got small kids and don’t want any trouble. I plan to install a camera and sign saying no litter at the front of my house. If I catch him in the act on camera I’ll submit it to the police. Would you recommend this strategy? And would police do anything if I have video proof of his cigarette butt littering? I honestly would rather have no confrontation nor retaliation but the cigarette butts are nasty and I don’t like my kids picking them up each morning (they do that sometimes when the butts are still burning because they think burning objects are kind of cool).
