Man, the abduction issue is so misused. These poor families holding out after all these years because Abe promised it to them. LDP has strung them along for decades, but they let themselves be trotted out over and over as PR.
Those abductees are long dead, in a mass grave from the 90s famine, most likely. The govt rhetoric of “we will bring them back!” is pathetic and dishonest.
The ONE concession that Japan should make to NK is to turn down the heat on the abductee issue. It sucks, but find a way to move on from it. NK has probably lost these people anyway, living or dead. It’s a dead end for both parties, so find a shitty compromise and get past it.
Turn up the heat on other issues to make up for it.
