I’m half Japanese and still have my passport and what not.
Recently I learned my grandma has been putting money away into a local bank under my name and account for 20 years.
It’s at about 12 mil yen and it’s really appreciated but with compounding interest it could’ve been a lot more.
Trying to move it out of this bank account and into either an index fund or something but the account is so old it doesn’t have any online login.
Should I go to the bank and ask for a login or one time transfer to my E*trade or US bank account?
I think with moving this much money I have to file something with the IRS but I don’t think there’s any tax penalties on this since it’s my own money correct?
