4

so I was born in April 4 ,19XX. I’m planning to go work in japan, but I saw in some articles that 4 is an unlucky number for japanese. 4(shi) which is close to “shinu/死ぬ” or death. japanese sometimes don’t have floor 4 or 4 rooms (from net) in hospitals. I was worried the fact that I’m born with two 4s, april (shigatsu) and 4. Can this affect job finding and connecting to the locals?

pls don’t compare me to some mangakas and japanese singers that got successful despite being born with a 4, compare me to a normal citizen.

  1. Nothing to be worried about. I’m pretty sure the 4 being attributed to death is of chinese origin (I’m not certain so don’t quote me on that). I’ve never encountered the situation you described and I think this is dumb.

  2. that’s right. 4 is regarded as an ominous number in Japan. However, the Japanese do not believe in superstition so much.

Moreover, they will not think that the number “4” on your birthday will bring disaster to other Japanese people.
