今日はですね

What exactly do people mean with that expression? What would be an English equivalent and what is the difference to just using ‘今日は’? I hear it often in YouTube videos when they start talking.

I am sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn’t find this question on Reddit.

Thank you a lot in advance!

  1. 今日は would be “today.”

ね or ですね can be used as filler, similar to the English “like.”

今日はね、学校で友達が漫画を返したんだけどね、3ページも破られちゃったんだ。So, like today, a friend gave me back a manga, and like, 3 pages were ripped!
