  1. > He was found near the escalator’s exit, which connects the station platform to the ticket gate area. The escalator was moving at the time.

They’re going to be haunting reportings of the escalator moving without anyone on it late at night

  2. Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don’t hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid which could have easily been avoided had some parent – I don’t care which one – but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator.

  3. Titles are misleading, the escalater itself didn’t kill him. He died later in the hospital of yet unknown causes.

  4. It makes me want to only ride the escalator naked, but that would probably be just as – if not more – dangerous.

  5. >MITO, IBARAKI PREF. –

    >A man has died following an accident involving his suit jacket getting caught in an escalator at a station in Ibaraki Prefecture, police said Wednesday.

    >The staff of Mito Station found Mamoru Suzuki, a 72-year-old resident of Hitachi, Ibaraki Prefecture, collapsed but still conscious at around 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the back of his jacket ensnared in the escalator’s handrail, according to the local police.

    >

    >Suzuki later fell unconscious and was confirmed dead at the hospital he had been transported to. The cause of his death remains undetermined, and the police are reviewing the station’s security camera footage.

    >He was found near the escalator’s exit, which connects the station platform to the ticket gate area. The escalator was moving at the time

What a weird…article of nothing haha. I mean, sucks he died, but the escalator doesn’t seem related. It just happened.

  6. I saw an old woman with a walker tumbling down the escalator at Aeon mall once. The fall was as you imagine, she basically rolled down with her walker.

But the sound of her and her walker crashing all the way to the bottom was horrifying.

  7. In general remember that escalators are just slower chainsaws. ALWAYS remain vigilant of yourself and your belongings when you ride it.

  8. My first Reddit account was named because of the Chinese woman who fell through the maintenance cover of an escalator and died. That video made me really depressed (and I’m not clicking this one if it’s a video).

An escalator is a human-conveying machine. Moving machine parts, lose clothing, hair, and general carelessness in any way should not happen around escalators.

Not saying this guy did anything wrong, but any time I see anyone fucking around near or on an escalator it stresses me out.

  9. In a department store basement I saw an elderly lady who wasn’t boarding the escalator. Others asked if she wanted to hold hands to go together but wisely she went to the elevator instead of attempting to balance when it’s too much of a burden for her.
As a lil kid I remember being afraid of the escalator. Balancing and timing requires motor skills, albeit minimal.

  10. Still doesn’t deter me from wanting to visit Japan, Shinto shrines and Tomomi Motozawa what’s not to love?

  11. >The cause of his death remains undetermined

Misleading headline, if I ever seen any.

  12. A lady recently lost her leg in Bangkok. It’s insane how dangerous these things are.

  13. Hopefully the escalator incapacitated him quickly and he went easy without suffering or knowledge of his unfortunate demise, the only solace of this story that I can find is that this man was 72 I’m sure he had a life well lived and his legacy will live on with his kids.

one flew over the cuckoos nest. I am very unwell mentally

Edit: for some reason I am not very liked here.

  14. That reminds me of a similar incident years ago involving a mother and her child.

What was horrifying was that the mother, as she was being dragged under the escalator, managed to bring the child away from it to a guy behind them.

Great, I just woke up by the way.

  15. Saw a young father let his toddler ran free on those moving walkway (flat escalator) at centrair airport. My heart dropped when a toy car in the toddler’s hand drop onto the gap of the subduction zone and he tried to reach it, lucky nothing happen.
