IT Qualifications and IT Certifications/Examinations to Get a Job in Japan

Hello,

I will be 31 in one and a half years and I want to apply for a work holiday visa in Japan. I’ve been trying to find some information regarding what IT qualifications and certifications to get a job in IT at Japan and I have not been able to find anything relevant. I already have an Associate’s Degree in General IT as well as a Diploma in IT from America, a Certificate III in IT from Australia, a Google IT Support Certification, and am working on getting my COMPTIA A+ . I hear Japan loves certifications but I’m not sure if they will be enough as I don’t have my Bachelors and do not have enough for a Bachelors as of right now.

I heard of the ITEE and JITEC but the only information I can find is that one is in the Phillipines. Is it possible to take some IT Exams in Japan? And will they be in Japanese? What level of Japanese would I have to know if I cannot take them in English?

Finally, are they really required to get into an entry level IT job such as help desk or something? I was thinking due to my experience as a Junior ICT officer in Australia for 3 years, Help Desk for 1 year in America, and my education qualifications, wouldn’t that be enough to be able to get a small entry level job at the bottom?

Information would be much appreciated on how to get an IT job, without possibly having a Bachelors Degree

Possibly yes, but there is a difference between “getting a job” and “qualifying for a visa”
A company could be willing to hire you, but if you dont meet the government defined minimum requirements for a visa, then it makes no difference.

In the general case, you can get a visa if you have a bachelors, or 10 years experience in the specific field of work. There are as you seem aware some exceptions for IT certs, but yes these are mostly aimed at people from other SEA region countries, and are generally only available to take if you are from those countries.

In your case, as you dont have 10 years of experience, or a bachelors level degree, you arent going to meet the work visa requirements that immigration sets – the best bet since you have an associates, is to do a 1 year conversion if you can.
